La Jota Howell Mountain (Napa Valley) Cabernet Sauvignon 2014

Standard

This 2014 La Jota Howell Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon from Jackson Family Wines portfolio is currently listed on the La Jota website with the rider “limited availability, please enquire”, and is on offer by US retailers at US$100.

I got 24 bottles as part of my JFW allocation and there’s currently 13 left for sale.

I’m retailing it here at S$131 ea. which makes it spot on with a direct exchange conversion from the asking price in the US. It was released at US$85 but as Robert Parker noted, it was unlikely to remain at that price.

Enjoy!

Mayer Yarra Valley Cabernet 2015

Two new ratings since I promo’d this back in December 2016. Halliday (92) and Richard Hemming MW of jancisrobinson.com (17.5/20)

A$55 on release, S$65 here right now. 6 bottles in stock and ready to go. No minimum purchase. Nowhere else but Tiger Wines.

Cheers,

Mount Cathedral Vineyard “Reserve” Upper Goulburn Cabernet Sauvignon 2010

I started sending the below promotion out to customers and before you know it, 11 bottles had gone.

So, just 4 left as of 19 May.

Every time I go back to Australia, I drive past this vineyard, and just as things that are closest often tend to get overlooked, so it is with Mount Cathedral Vineyards.

I bought this wine back in late 2014 after Halliday named the vineyard as one of his “10 Dark Horses”. I have promoted it by email only once, and that was back in mid-2015, so I really haven’t given it the attention it deserves. Given that I can almost see the vineyard from our property (it’s about 15 kilometres away as the crow flies).

Thankfully, with a suggested drinking range out to 2040, there’s still plenty of time to give it a try.

No minimum order, and will be here second half of June if ordered.

Cheers

NEW ARRIVALS IN MELBOURNE

SAILOR SEEKS HORSE, Tasmania

2016 Chardonnay – 11 btls – $72 – Campbell Mattinson 95
2016 Pinot Noir – 45 btls – $72 – Campbell Mattinson 95

(HOUSE OF) ARRAS, Tasmania

2003 “EJ Carr Late Disgorged” Sparkling – 4 btls – $150 – Huon Hooke 96, Tyson Stelzer 96…possibly the last bottles offered for retail sale in Melbourne. Should be drunk soon, this year at least, hence the price here of S$150 when the last per bottle asking price in Australia was A$145.

2008 “Grand Vintage” Sparkling – 9 btls – $93 – Huon Hooke 95, Halliday 95, Tyson Stelzer 95 – running very low in Australia, discounted like crazy on release by Dan Murphys etc, but now harder to get. Brand is part of Accolade which has recently been sold to equity group Carlyle so who knows what the future holds

2010 Reserve Cabernet 2

Lokoya Mt Veeder Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2014

Standard

Yes, this is the most expensive wine in my portfolio and no, I don’t expect that all of my customers will be chafing at the bit to get it…but maybe you know someone who might be interested. It’s not a change of direction for Tiger Wines, but when I was offered the opportunity to get 12 bottles, through my Hickinbotham Clarendon Vineyards connection with Jackson Family Wines, I jumped at it.

Here’s a few things to consider:

It’s Robert Parker 99 points.

It was on very tight allocation in the US, i.e. one needed to apply to buy it retail. No point in applying now as allocations have closed. Singapore was allocated just 12 bottles. There’s 4 left.

It’s US$375 retail there.

It comes direct to Tiger Wines from Jackson Family Wines (JFW) rather than through a parallel import.

A lesser-rated vintage is currently on sale in Singapore for S$710.

I have 4 bottles left in stock in Singapore at S$585 ea. including GST.

Cheers

Hickinbotham Clarendon Vineyard “Trueman” McLaren Vale Cabernet Sauvignon 2014

Standard

So many ratings!

No lack of information on this wine and all of it good. Maybe that shouldn’t be a surprise as Chris Carpenter plays a hand in the making of this wine and he’s got a few 99 & 100 point Robert Parker Cabernets up his sleeve already at Jackson Family Wine’s Lokoya and Cardinale vineyards.

Richard Hemming of jancisrobinson.com gives it 17/20. From robertparker.com, Lisa Perotti-Brown gives it 90. Sells in the US at US$75. See below for the ratings of Huon Hooke (96), Gary Walsh (94), Halliday (94) and James Suckling (94).

In stock and ready to go. Enjoy!

2014 Trueman

Freycinet Vineyards Tasmania Cabernet Merlot 2013

Standard

The back label of this wine says it goes with “roast lamb, BBQ steak, hearty casseroles and strong cheeses”.

I had it last night with home made pizza (our home made pizza is about as healthy as kaya toast, only there’s more of it) and the cab merlot was a great match. It’s full-bodied enough to cope.

Depending on who you follow, it should be drunk now, right now, or before 2027. Hmm.

Richard Hemming of jancisrobinson.com says drink it now…

He also shows it as 50% Cabernet / 50% Merlot which is what it says on the Freycinet Vineyards website.

I’m sticking with the 84/16% that it says on the back label. I’ll be seeing Claudio in a couple of weeks so I’ll get the good oil then.

Halliday says drink it by 2028 (as does Claudio Radenti) and Huon Hooke by 2027. You’ll have to be your own judge.

See below for the Halliday and Huon Hooke ratings.

Cheers!
